Frequently Asked
Questions

Do you accept insurance?

No, dental insurance is not accepted. All services offered are considered cosmetic and not covered by dental insurance.  All services at Tooth Fairy Whitening Co are are fee-for-service.

Is teeth whitening for everyone?

No, teeth whitening is NOT approved for everyone. If untreated gum disease, moderate-heavy calculus/tartar, active caries (tooth decay), leaking filling, or other dental conditions is present, unfortunately, you will not be a candidate for teeth whitening at this time.

Teeth whitening CANNOT be used by pregnant or lactating women, people under 14 years of age, or people with a known allergy to peroxide and/or aloe vera.

Will I have sensitivity?

Teeth whitening can cause sensitivity to the teeth and gums.  Some patients experience little to no sensitivity, while other patients may need to limit the strength and time of the bleaching to avoid sensitivity.

During the whitening process, it is completely normal for sensitivity to occur. The teeth become temporarily dehydrated which reduces their ability to insulate the nerve from changes in temperature. Sensitivity will disappear 12-36 hours after whitening.

An OTC pain reliever can usually help to reduce the symptoms. White/clear sensitivity toothpaste, fluoride toothpaste or fluoride rinse before and after can help reduce sensitivity.

Can I whiten my crowns/veneers?

When artificial caps and veneers are placed, they are created to match the color of your surrounding teeth. Whitening does not change the color/shade of dental veneers or any non-natural tooth restoration. Teeth whitening will not damage dental work.

Is teeth whitening permanent?

UV-light activated whitening does whiten teeth very quickly however, the results are temporary and must still be maintained.  Custom trays are great for maintaining shade after an UV-light treatment.  Results vary depending on the type and level of staining and from person-to-person.

Will teeth whitening damage my teeth?

Just like aggressive brushing of your teeth, abuse of any kind can be damaging. However, if used as instructed, professional teeth whitening is safe. The whitening process uses active ingredients to temporarily open pores in your teeth and lift stains. After each whitening session, your teeth naturally remineralize and rehydrate.

What causes teeth to stain?

Your teeth have pores just like your skin or a sponge. Anything you put in your mouth that has color will absorb into those pores. Wine, coffee, dark berries, and smoking are extremely active in staining teeth. Over time, the natural color of your teeth becomes darker due to these stains. These stains will never go away unless you actively remove them. Properly formulated teeth whitening gel works by absorbing into your teeth and gently pushing stains out through the pores.

Will teeth whitening work for me?

Results from whitening vary from person to person and on the type of stains.  Teeth whitening generally works best on yellowish-brown stains compared to gray stains.
